"HOW TO LOVE A WOMAN OF ALPHA KAPPA ALPHA"

Once a man walked,
A man turned,
and saw that woman,
something more extraordinary
than the Rest...
She seemed to be
A woman of Culture.
Perhaps a poem or two
or a Sweet word would do.
Then he saw her Merit;
Honesty begets me;
Could it be that
I cannot run game
On a lady such as thee?
He noticed the colors
of her salmon pink and apple green.
Could it be that love
had struck it's cord
in his heart?
She walked with a strut
of attitude that was outstanding,
more than regular attitude...
It was AKAtude.
He looked over at her 20 Pearls,
and realized that this woman
was more than money or flash;
She was a woman of her community,
A leader not a follower.
How can I make this woman mine?
First let go of your ignorance, and
learn the ways of 1908.
Second be willing to build
upon a serious mind,
as well as a serious
stand of a woman.
Third make yourself
humble for her presence,
because she is a first and
will never settle for second.
To gain these things,
And make this woman yours,
listen you Alphas, Kappas, Ques, Sigmas, and yes, Iotas too,
You must be willing to learn about the daughters of merit and culture
and learn to transcend, for this women don't like brothers who skate on their responses.
Be real in order to gain this AKA,
for she is 1908, thru and true.

Alpha Kappa Alpha Mystique

    Beauty unparalleled, grace undefined,
    An Alpha Kappa Alpha Woman is one of a kind.
   She walks in a room with her head held high,
Acknowledgement of her presence is an awe-filled gaze or admiring sigh.
  The Alpha Kappa Alpha Woman is regal and profound. 
She is the essence of feminism and these qualities abound.
The Alpha Kappa Alpha Woman is honorable and oh so unique.
All of these qualities culminated, create the
Alpha Kappa Alpha Mystique

  AKA...and ??

In 1908, Soror Lyle wanted to make things better

So she created an organization

Where black women could come together

Shoot, I don't know about you,

But I think that was pretty clever.

It started in Miner Hall

When the ivy was on the wall

These women's talents were tall

And our Beloved Splendid Sixteen

Took on the challenge... held it to high esteem.

The four incorporators 

Were the real innovators

Made sure the dream could continue

After that, there could only be imitators.

That  AKA dream

Had us standing tall

It's been over 90 years

With all the work we've done, is that all??

We have many more miles to go.

More dreams to create.

More services to do

More goals to make

Sorors!!! We're gonna be 100 in 2008 !!!

So keep the tradition alive, RE-ACTIVATE!!!

We, ladies of AKA have style, elegance

And so much flair.

We do our work with grace, class

And lots of care.

We don't settle for less

We go for the top... the very best.

We surpass all the rest.

If you don't know, put US to the test!!!

So if anyone asks you

Girl, why do you look so grand?

This is a serious matter, since 1908,
we're those sexy, fine girls you try to imitate.
When we walk in a room, you all stop and stare,
we feel sorry for you haters, we're not going anywhere!

In 1906, 7 young men from Cornell
Shared a vision that could never fail.
Their vision was made a reality
Creating for all others, an opportunity.
The first Black Greek organization was created.
A brotherhood never to be duplicated.
A selective union, allowing only a certain type of man.
An ALPHA man strong, intelligent and proud
That type of man who stands out in a crowd.
Emphasizing service and unity
A model which others would soon see.
They were the founding fathers who led the way
And then from Alpha came AKA.
Created by 16 precious pearls
1908 was the year of the pretty girls.
The first Black Greek sorority
Holding true values of unity,
Scholarship, and service to all mankind.
The model woman for all womankind.
With this the first family is now complete
Accept the truth and bow before our feet.
Don't deny your history, for it is the truth
You should never deny me, you MUST respect your roots.
I am your mother.
I am your father.

History of Alpha Kappa Alpha

Alpha Kappa Alpha women all over the world
proudly wearing their precious 20 pearls.

AKA, they founded January 15, 1908
at Howard University on that historic date.

Women called together by Ethel Hedgeman Lyle
chose pink and green their colors, a lot of class,
 a lot of style.

Women providing service to an outstanding ideal
through friendship, sisterhood and love so real.

Women blessed by God above, in friendship and love
in a sorority as precious and peaceful as the white dove.

Women, by culture and by merit too,
 who strive to do their best
through high standards, moral character, a lot of zeal
Women with strength and endurance like the
Green Ivy Leaf
promote the goals of service and sisterhood in our great sorority.

Women like the rose unfolding in shadows of
pink and green,
demonstrate fine characteristics of womanhood serene.

Women in the Virgin Islands, The Bahamas, Germany, Korea, Bermuda, England, and the USA
are working together in service and sisterhood the Alpha Kappa Alpha Way.
