Music Stuff
I play guitar, mandolin, bouzouki, and hammered
dulcimer. I have been writing songs since I started playing the
guitar at age seventeen. When I perform solo, I play mostly
original material. I started learning the mandolin in 1973, and I
enjoy playing bluegrass and other acoustic music. And the other
links below will give you an idea of my musical interests and
heroes.
Here's a calendar of my upcoming performances, either solo or
with groups. Come see me!
Picture Gallery
Here are a few that I had on a disk. Maybe I'll learn how to
rotate them. For now, just turn your head to the left and they'll
look relatively normal. I'll post some more pictures as soon as I
get some time on the scanner!
Practice Tips
I wrote these for CoMando, the mandolin discussion list. John
Baxter posted them on MandoZine. I hope you find them helpful!
(Clicking here will take you to John's site. Don't forget to come
back when you're through practicing.)

The Tao of the Mandolin
I am posting these philosophical meanderings (as the Taoist
master Barney Fife once said) every week to CoMando. At the end
of the year, I'll have a little book that I've been planning to
write for a long time. Clicking here will take you to my new
website, The Tao of the Mandolin.
Reviews
I plan to post reviews of music I've been listening to
lately, both on CD and in concert.
Columns
I have some music columns I wrote that I hope to post, and
maybe I'll write some more.
