Members of Gamma Kappa

 


Brittany Brown, from
Pittsburgh, PA, is working on a BA in music and is minoring in social sciences. She sings in Promise to Progress, a community gospel choir, and plans to become a recording artist. Brittany loves Mickey Mouse, and spends some of her free time coloring, crocheting and anything involving music.

Carrie Boyd is from right here in Rock Hill, SC. She’s an instrumental music education major. She is a member of MENC, as well as Kappa Delta Pi (education honor society). Carrie plans to teach elementary music. Carrie has a cat (Butterball) and she enjoys Harry Potter and Pirates of the Caribbean.

Alisha Harris is from Taylors, SC. She is a BA in music and is an active member in the Wesley Foundation. After she graduates, she plans on heading straight into the workforce. She enjoys singing and reading in her spare time, and loves Willy Wonka, as well as Saved by the
Bell.
Caroline Firczak is from Concord, NC and is a vocal performance major. She sings in the choir at Harrison UMC and teaches voice and piano at Music 49. After graduation she is heading for graduate school. She recently performed in a production of The Music Man, and takes an interest in theatre as well as music. Her favorite authors are C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien.

Lindsay Harris is from Ladson, SC and is a choral music education major. Apart from DO, she is an ambassador for Winthrop’s campus, and a member of MENC. Lindsay plans on graduating to become a music teacher and have a family. She has a cat named Cricket and claims to have a “screechy howler monkey laugh”.


Lashara Gordon is from here in Rock Hill, SC. She is an instrumental music education major. After Winthrop, she plans to teach, get married and attend graduate school. She enjoys sleeping, all kinds of music and computers.
Brandi Jarrell is from Bamberg, SC and is an instrumental music education major. She is a member of MENC and plans on teaching after graduation. She loves to read and watch movies-her favorite books are The Myth of You and Me and The Other Boleyn Girl.
Sara Alford is from Chapin, SC. She is a choral music education major and plans to teach music in middle school after she graduates. She currently is a member of MENC and teaches music to three-year-olds at Westminster Presbyterian Church. Sara loves to sing, watch movies and is a big fan of The Office. You can find Sara by listening for her distinctive laugh.

Jessica Huggins is from
Sumter, SC and is an instrumental music education major. She plays trombone in brass ensemble, trombone choir and pep band. She’s also a member of MENC and plans to become a band director. Jessica is a member of Lemira Presbyterian, loves the movie Ever After and collects rubber ducks in her spare time.
Kaitlyn Campbell is from Inman, SC and is an instrumental music education major. She is a member of MENC and plays the flute at Westminster Church, as well as in the Winthrop pep band and flute choir. She plans to teach high school band after graduating. In her spare time she plays her flute, goes camping, watches TV and loves to shop.
 
Kayla Hucks comes from Conway, SC. She is a choral music education major. She is a member of MENC, and is a peer mentor for incoming freshmen. After graduation she aims to teach in a high school classroom, and to eventually own a beach house in
St. Augustine, Florida. Kayla enjoys sewing and cooking, as well as drag racing, car shows and the Braves.
Michele Ripley is from Lexington, SC and is a choral music education major. She is a member of MENC, BCM and Teaching Fellows. She is excited about the idea of teaching music in elementary schools because she loves to work with kids. Michele loves funny movies, reduced fat peanut butter, and family games.

Brianne Fischer is from
Charleston, SC and is a choral music education major. She is a member of MENC and is also a Teaching Fellow. She plans to eventually get her master’s in vocal performance. In her spare time she enjoys reading, photography and scrapbooking. Some favorite books include Pride and Prejudice and Gone with the Wind.
Erica Oliveira is from Inman, SC although she’s originally from Texas. She is an instrumental music education major and is a member of the Wesley Foundation. After graduation she plans on grad school, and then a career in teaching. She enjoys reading and spending time with her friends. Her favorite book is One Foot in Eden.
Hope Howard comes from Spartanburg, SC. She is an instrumental music education major. After school, she plans to be a band director and get married. She loves animals, reading, The Beatles, The Wizard of Oz and skipping. Hope is always excited to meet new people and is especially close with her clarinet friends.
Kathryn Waller is from Lancaster, SC and is a piano performance major. Aside from DO she is also a member of Phi Kappa Phi. Kathryn is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and after her time here at Winthrop she plans to teach piano and pursue a master’s in music theory, with the possibility of becoming a professor at a university. She likes to write, hike, go camping, listen to folk music, study history and read. She has a lifelong passion for Irish and Scottish culture, history and music.
LaToya Johnson is from Anderson, SC. She is an instrumental music education major, and plans to teach middle school band, and hopes to be in a position to build up a struggling program. LaToya is a member of Alpha Omega and MENC, teaches clarinet at Northwestern High School, and is the president of college ministry at her church. Toya likes to read, and she loves action movies like Spiderman, Déjà vu and Inside Man.
 
Courtney Woodberry is from
Greenville SC, and is a psychology major with a minor in music. After graduating from Winthrop she plans to look for a career in human resources or child development. In her spare time she likes to watch documentaries, play video games, read and enter image manipulation contests.
Mattie Long is from Summerville, SC. She is a history secondary education major. She is a member of the Wesley Foundation, and Youth Director at Bethel UMC of Rock Hill. After graduation, she plans to move to the west coast and teach high school. Mattie likes rock music, beach trips, going to concerts and one day hopes to travel the world.
