FOL Financial Summary 2004

Friends of Liberia supported five special projects and programs in 2004 in the amount of $ 100,758. (For more information about these programs see our website at www.fol.org and refer to e-zine articles: LEAP and Hands Across the Water and Liberian Women’s Peace Initiatives featured last Fall; Gardnersville Central Academy and Advocacy initiatives (Frank Ardaiolo’s article) featured in this issue)

The projects and amounts include:
Liberian Education Assistance Program, now
Liberian Educators for Action and Peace $ 75,284

A teacher training program, entering its 5th year
Hands Across the Water $ 3,235
Books and materials supporting LEAP schools
Gardnersville Central Academy $ 6,120
Student scholarships and support for teachers
Liberian Women’s Peace Initiatives $ 11,585
Published book Liberian Women Peacemakers
Advocacy $ 4,534
Wide variety of activities including Congressional testimony
and work with various media around the country

This work was made possible by contributions of faithful friends and members of FOL as well as foundation grants. FOL’s income comes from gifts and contributions: “membership dues”, “wedding gifts”, “in memory of”, donations in response to “Holiday Appeal” letters, etc. In 2004 we also received a substantial “anonymous” foundation grant to support our LEAP project. Individual contributions in 2004 totaled $54,232. FOL received $ 43,910 in grants.
Although no grants have been received to date in 2005, individual contributions continue to support our special projects as well as the general operational expenses. FOL’s operational expenses are extremely low thanks to the volunteers who contribute their time and talent. FOL has no paid staff and pays for only the use of a phone at Grace Lutheran Church in Washington, DC which is also our mailing address. This keeps our overhead costs to a minimum.
Hopefully, this report gives you an understanding of where your money goes when you make that tax-deductible contribution to Friends of Liberia. We are committed to using organization money as effectively as we can for the rebuilding of Liberia. Thanks to all of you who have supported us in the past. We look forward to your continued support as we respond to the needs and opportunities in Liberia.
