The Phoenix History Club

 

CONSTITUTION

 

 

ARTICLE I NAME

The name of the organization shall be: The Phoenix History Club

 

ARTICLE II PURPOSE

The purpose of the organization shall be:  To promote and encourage the interest in History while providing fellowship among students and faculty.

 

ARTICLE III MEMBERSHIP

1_    Membership in the organization shall be open to those regularly-enrolled Winthrop University students who are History majors, minors and those who have a general interest in History.

2_    The organization will not have associated members who are non-students or who do not meet the above criteria.

3_    Eligibility for membership or appointed or elected student officer positions in the campus-recognized chapter or group may not be limited on the basis of race, sex, color, age, religion, national origin, martial status, sexual orientation, physical or mental handicap, ancestry or medical condition, except as explicitly exempted in federal law.

 

ARTICLE IV OFFICERS & DUTIES

 

4_    The officers of this organization shall be: President: Vice-President: Secretary: Treasurer.

5_    To be eligible for office, candidates must be regularly enrolled students at Winthrop University and a member of the Phoenix History Club.

6_    Nominations for office shall occur yearly at the beginning of the February.

7_    Elections shall occur yearly beginning in March for the upcoming academic year.

8_    The term of office shall be for one year and shall begin in August and end on July 31.

9_    Vacancies shall be filled by a two-thirds vote of the membership and will serve for the remainder of the term vacated.

10_Officers may be removed from office by failure to abide by Winthrop University Student Conduct Code.

 

The duties of the officers shall be:

 

11_ President: serve as an liaison between members, faculty, and administrators.  To attend Leadership training workshops, help procure information and approval for on and off campus events.  To preside over all meetings. Has the right to veto any vote.

12_Vice-President: preside at meetings in absence of the president. Attend leadership training workshops.  Oversee committee appointments.


13_Secretary: Organize and maintain all current and past business. Oversee office management. Certify roll at each meeting and keep roll of all members. Organize and maintain minutes.

14_Treasurer: Oversee all expenses incurred by the Phoenix History Club. Prepare biannual  balance, income and expense sheets. Must have written approval by the president and advisor before spending any money.

 

ARTICLE V FUNDING

 

15_The organization shall be funded through appropriations and donations.

16_All money transactions must be approved by the president, vice-president, secretary and advisor.

 

ARTICLE VI MEETINGS

 

17_Regular meetings of the organization shall be held as determined at the beginning of each semester by the president and advisor with the consensus of the membership.

18_Special meetings may be called by any officer with appropriate notice given to participants.

19_Agendas for the meetings shall be prepared for by the president and vice-president.

20_A quorum for any regular or special meeting shall be by a vote of two-thirds.

 

ARTICLE VII POWERS

 

21_The organization shall have the following standing committees: Event planning and advertising. Membership drive.

22_Additional committees may be created by and members to the committees shall be selected by appointment.

23_The organization shall operate as a non-profit association and no profits may accrue to any individual within the organization.

24_Unless otherwise provided in these bylaws, decisions of the organization shall be made by a simple majority vote of those present and voting, with those abstaining from the vote not figuring unto the determination of the majority required.

25_For the purpose of any vote, the determination of the current eligible voting membership shall be limited to active members only.

 

ARTICLE VIII AMENDMENT OF BYLAWS

 

These bylaws may be amended at any regular meeting of the organization by a two-thirds vote, provided that the amendment has been submitted in writing at the previous regular meeting.
