FluffBucket

In the forest I met a white cat named Owl.

Owl gave me directions - jump across the creek, go under the barbed wire, through the pasture (watch out for cow mounds), under more barbed wire, through some woods, through the backyard of a very old house (watch out for the very old dog tied up in yard), cross the road (looking both ways first), and Cottage Larsen is the 4th house on the right.  Owl told me to speak to Smokie, the resident male cat - he decides who is permitted to stay at Cottage Larsen.

I saw a spotted dalmation cat in the yard of Cottage Larsen and asked her where I could find Smokie.  But she hissed and ran away.  I didn't see any other cats around.
I was very hungry by this time and I was scared - it might have been safer in the woods than out in the open like this!  So I cried for help and a wise-looking cat appeared at the top of the steps leading to the back deck of Cottage Larsen.

He looked down at me and I looked up at him.  He sniffed the wind and gave me a quizzical look.
Slowly he came down the stairs and stood at the bottom of the stairs.
I cried again.  Cautiously he approached and sat down about 3 feet away.  "Hungry?" he asked.
"Yes."  I replied.
"You are with kittens." He said.
"Yes." I replied.
"You can come up on the deck and get something to eat and drink.  If you are very sweet to the people who live here they will let you stay - they're pushovers.  But you have to act very sweet and loving." Smokie said.
I agreed and he led me up on the deck where the food and water bowls are kept.

While I ate and drank my fill Smokie gave me background information - he is the eldest and only male at Cottage Larsen.  He has owned Mommy and Daddoo for almost 9 years!  Smokette is Smokie's wife - she will be very jealous of me, especially since I am pregnant.  Smokie told me to keep my distance from Smokette for a while.  Spot, the dalmation cat I met earlier that day, is scared of everything and will probably never accept me.  Milkshake is iffy, but Miss. Malt will be my friend after a few days.

Smokie told me the boundaries of the Cottage Larsen yard - I will be safe if I stay within them.  The front yard is pretty obvious, backyard obvious, and for the pasture across the creek the yard extends up to the telephone pole and forsythia bushes.  Don't cross the street - the humans drive too fast in this area.

I was nervous about what would happen when the Cottage Larsen humans came home - but Smokie said not to worry.  Later Smokie and I went into the backyard and he showed me his favorite bushes to sleep in.
We woke up when we heard the back door of Cottage Larsen open and a male human called, "Dinner time!  Crunchies!"
"Food!  Come on!" Smokie ran out of the bushes and up the stairs.  I was so excited about the idea of more food that I followed right behind him and started eating with Smokie out of his bowl while the other four cats ate at their own bowls.

"Hmm."  said the man.  "Something's not right.  One, two, three, four, five,... who are you?"
He reached down and petted me.  I stopped eating for a second, looked up at him with my big gold eyes and said, "Mew!"
"Oh, you are so pretty!  Are you hungry?" he asked as I gobbled down crunchies as fast as I could.
Later that night I was asleep in the bushes when the back door opened again.

"Kitties!  Babies!" I heard a woman call.
I meowed back that yes, I was expecting babies, but cats call them kittens.
"Who are you?" the woman asked.
"It's me."  I responded and ran up the back steps.
"Where did you come from?" she asked.
"The woods.  And Smokie said I could stay.  It's all settled." I explained.
She opened the back door and called in, "Sweet!  There is a strange cat out here."
"Yeah, she was out there earlier tonight."  Daddoo said.
"Well, she's pregnant."  Mommy replied.
"Oh, that's why she's so hungry."  Daddoo said.
"Yes, I'm still hungry."  I meowed back.
Mommy got more crunchies for me and petted me  I jumped up in her lap when I was done eating and purred real loud and kissed her hand.

It's April now and I have been here for 4 weeks now.  They are keeping me inside so I will have my kittens in a place where they can help me with them and to make sure we are safe and dry and have plenty to eat.

Kevin, Daddoo's kitten, named me FluffBucket.  Daddoo wants to name me MopBucket or Biscuit.  But Mommy likes MopNoodle.  Smokie says if they decide on a name then they will keep me.

If I have a solid white kitten I am going to name it Owl after the cat in the woods who gave me directions to Cottage Larsen.

April 11, 2005 - I had my kittens soon after midnight.  At first I was very scared.  I didn't know what was happening.  But Mommy wrapped me up in a towel and took me to the nest I had found in their bedroom closet.
Mommy held my paw and petted me for a while and then they closed the door to give me some privacy.  Later, when they came to bed I already had two kittens to show them and I was quite proud of myself!
By the morning I had a litter of five!  Mommy and Daddoo even came home from work for lunch to check on me.  I have my own private litter box and food and water bowls in their bedroom now!

May 29 - Aunt Alice came and picked up Possum.  SHe already has one of Milkshake's kittens.  Aunt Alice was very nice and Possum was very happy sleeping in her lap while Mommy and AUnt Alice talked in the living room.  Later that day a woman and her 2 children picked up MaltBall and Rocky.  At least they will stay together and won't be lonely.  THe woman couldn't hear

June 2, 2005 - A man, his wife, and their kitten came and picked up Doro and Noro.  Now all of my babies are gone.  Mr. and Mrs. L keep talking about finding me a home.  I am sad.  I miss my kittens and I don't want to leave Cottage Larsen.  Maybe they won't be able to find me a home.  They also keep saying that I need to go to some long word that starts with a V.  Smokie calls it the place of needles!

Update
CL note - In August of 2005, FluffBucket was adopted and moved across town.
There was much rejoicing at Cottage Larsen as FB did not get along well with the other CL cats.
