2005 JOURNALS

Cottage 2008 2007 2006 2005 2004

September 2005
Fri. Sept. 9 Milkshake Smokie got into something sticky on his back and he can't reach it to clean it.  Daddoo had to cut a lot of his matted fur out and he looks funny now with his lighter gray undercoat showing through.  Spot is calling him "Scrappy" behind his back!

Fri. Sept. 9 Smokie Mommy let me sleep in the bedroom today - to recover from my embarrassment of having the sticky stuff cut out of my fur.  It was so comfy on the bed.  I like being under the covers and having my head on the pillow like Mommy.

Sat. Sept. 10 all cats Ahh.. peace and quiet!  Daddoo's kitten has been gone since Friday morning!  No slamming of doors, no screaming music, no cell phone ringing every 20 minutes - life could never be this good!

Sun. Sept. 11 Smokette Mommy dug in the dirt around the mailbox all afternoon!  I tried to help her but she fussed at me.  I don't know what she was after.  Then she put new plants in the dirt.  I sniffed them but they didn't smell yummy.  So I went to sleep in the herb garden under the sage plant to keep an eye on her while she played in the dirt.

Sun. Sept. 18 Smokette Mommy is sick and in bed. Smokie, Miss, Malt and I took turns sleeping next to her all afternoon.

Mon. Sept. 19 Smokie Mommy is really sick.  Daddoo had to take her to the people "place of needles" this morning.  She has to take pills too.  But Daddoo doesn't have to hide them in her food or pry her mouth open to give them to her - she takes them all by herself.  Good Mommy.

October 2005
Oct. 17 Smokette Favorite Spot Updates - we all have new favorite indoor spots.
Spot - On my blankie on the living room couch.
Smokie - Mommy and Daddoo's closet.
Smokette - Mommy and Daddoo's bed
Miss Malt - The very middle of the love seat in the living room.
Milkshake - classified

Oct. 30 Miss Malt To convince Daddoo that I should be allowed to spend the night inside I brought him two gifts today.  A rat in the morning and a bird (still alive!) in the afternoon.  It didn't work.  I think I am being discriminated against because of my hyperactivity.

Oct. 31 Smokie Owl came back to visit today.  This time her three solid white kittens followed her.  They helped themselves to our food bowls.
Daddoo came home while they were eating.  Owl ran down the stairs when he started to open the back door.  But the kittens were scared and ran behind the grill.  They were so scared that they bumped into the grill and made a noise.  Daddoo went over to investigate.  When he saw Owl's kittens, he reached down to pet them and they jumped off the back deck!  Daddoo was worried about them, but they were okay.

November 2005
November 25 Smokie Miss. Malt was correct again about "holidays" - our people sacrificed a turkey again as they did this time of year last year.  Now that Miss. Malt has been proven right, she wants us to participate in the next big holiday.  She has given us homework - stuff to read and research.  When we reminded her that she is the only CL cat who can read she said she would help us.  There are 5 Cottage Larsen cats.  Miss. Malt wants us each to learn more about the different human winter holidays:  Christmas, Kwanzaa, Hanukah, Solstice, and New Year's and we each have to make a report.  Who made her the school teacher?!
December 2005
Dec. 14 Milkshake Our reports have been canceled... Miss. Malt drank some of the water under the Christmas tree - she said it was a science experiment - but she had a bad reaction and started seeing things.
She babbled for about two hours about cactuses, Indians, the ghosts of Christmas past, present, and future.
And then she hid under a couch pillow for an hour.
I think she reads too much and doesn't get out enough.
It took her a few days to fully recover and then she canceled our reports saying she had too much research to do after her "epiphany," whatever that is...
