2007 JOURNALS

Cottage 2008 2007 2006 2005 2004

March 2007
March 20 Smokie Bad Hair Day.

Smokette's fur got all matted up.  Mommy couldn't brush it out or cut it out.  Daddoo took Smokette to the place of needles and they shaved her!

October 2007

Oct. 16 Miss Malt We apologize for the delay in new journal entries.
Somecat, who will rename nameless (but whose name begins with M and ends in E), chewed up the connection I made to Daddoo's computer which allowed us cats to connect to the internet when Mommy and Daddoo are at work or asleep.
I finally managed to get new wires and connect them all up again while they were out of town this past weekend.
Oct. 24 Miss Malt Mommy packed her portable closet in a hurry this morning and didn't come home tonight.

Oct. 30 Spot Where is Mommy?

Oct. 31 Smokie It's Halloween and Mommy has been gone for a week.  Daddoo says Grandpa Hughes is sick and Mommy is helping take care of him at the big people place of needles.  Then, Daddoo changed himself into another person (a Kentucky moonshiner) and left for a party.  Little does he know that we are having our own kitty party tonight while he is gone.  We are even inviting Tom-Tom.

November 2007
Nov. 4 Smokette Mommy finally came home.  She is tired and says Grandpa Hughes is very sick.  See link below.  I am sad because Grandpa always liked me best - he said I look like a cat who owned him for a long time - my great Aunt Oscar.

Nov. 13 Milkshake Well, they did it this time.  After inviting Tom-Tom to our Halloween kitty party he won't leave.  He doesn't even run away when Mommy and Daddoo come out onto the back deck.  Tonight he wouldn't let Miss. Malt eat and he cornered and growled at Smokie.

Nov. 14 Smokie OPERATION TOM-TOM.  Mommy and Daddoo are planning to trap Tom-Tom in a cage and take him away.  Mommy didn't want to take him to the place of needles because she thought they would kill him because of his old injuries.

Nov. 15 Miss Malt Operation Tom-Tom update.  Mission was a success.  Feline Press contacted us and wants to interview me about the smooth and safe release.  No cats (including Tom-Tom) were harmed in the trapping and relocating.
Now all we have to worry about are the coyotes.... where is Spot?

Nov. 17 Smokie Day after day, hour after hour, I sit here and look over my kingdom.
The leaves are falling and making my blanket and sweater messy.
I am also keeping watch for coyotes.
But Daddoo hasn't heard any in several nights.

Nov. 20 Spot At nose-count this morning all 5 cats were present!
Mommy celebrated by feeding us together.
It's not often that we get together like this over a plate full of crunchies.

Nov. 22 Smokette It's Thanksgiving!

We are thankful for Mommy and Daddoo, turkey, heating blankets, and wool sweaters left unattended.

We are also thankful for each other and for Cottage Larsen.

Nov. 22 Milkshake I love Human Holidays.  Mommy and Daddoo are home for the second day in a row and they are cooking lots of food.

Nov. 23 Miss Malt Black Friday - I have warned the other cats.
They don't believe me - they are so easily bribed with turkey florentine.
Human Holidays are upon us.
The unusual calmness of the Turkey Sacrifice Day is just a ploy.
The Indoor Tree cometh - do not drink the tree water.
I repeat - do not drink the tree water.

(More info from Miss Malt concerning Human Holidays)

Nov. 24 Smokie Miss Malt was right.  Mommy and Daddoo got out their portable closets and left us.  She said they wouldn't be gone too long because they left us big bowls of food and water.  Miss Malt said if they were going to leave for more than two days that someone would come by and feed us.

Nov. 25
Smokette
Mommy and Daddoo finally came home.  Mommy said they went to visit Grandpa Hughes and Grandma Janet.  They also smell of kittens!  The nerve - leaving us here alone and coming back smelling of turkey and kittens!
Daddoo asleep with one of our twin cousins at Mommy's parents.

Sat. Dec. 8
Spot
Mommy came home and she smelled funny!  In addition to our cat cousins (Simon & Sullivan), Uncle Sam, Grandma Janet, and Grandpa Hughes - we detected a strange person and 2 additional cats - one with a scent of Asian flair.
And, this was very odd - Miss Malt says that Mommy smells of a reptile!

Uncle Sam

Sun. Dec. 9
Miss Malt

Chelonian, also known commonly as "turtle."  Mommy has been playing with one.  Additionally, while away she visited two strange cats - one was Siamese and the other a solid black cat, judging from the hairs on her sweater.  I told her to go take a bath but she just picked me up and hugged me - ugh, turtle germs!

Chelonian

Sun. Dec. 16 Spot Mommy disappeared again yesterday but came back today.  She still smells of other cats and a reptile.  Smokie is going to have a talk with her.

Sun. Dec. 16
Smokie
Mommy and I had a talk tonight.  She explained that yes, she has been seeing other cats and a turtle like Miss Malt said.
We knew about Simon and Sullivan at Grandpa Hughes and Grandma Janet's house.  But Mommy has been going to Uncle Sam's in Columbia and he has 2 cats - Onyx and Bailey.
Onyx is a solid black female with bright yellow-green eyes and
Bailey is a male pure-bred Siamese!
I warned Mommy about pure-breds - everycat knows they are stuck-up and high-maintenance.
Mommy understood our concerns but explained that Onyx and Bailey are very nice and haven't had the easiest of lives:
 - they are indoor cats, never allowed outside!
 - at the Place of Needles they tortured Bailey and pulled all of his claws out!
 - they have to share their house with Speedy, a turtle.
Mommy says we should be thankful for the freedoms we have and think warm purrs toward our cousins.

Mon. Dec. 17
Smokette
I got my brushing tonight and then slept next to the fire in the fireplace for a while before retiring to our bedroom.  Mommy and Daddy have their bedroom and Smokie and I have ours - but Mommy calls it the guest room.

Tues. Dec. 18
Milkshake
It was cold outside this morning!  For the 2nd night in a row we all slept inside.  Spot was on the old wool sweater in the chair in the living room.  Smokie and Smokette were on the guest bed.
Miss Malt was hiding in a secure undisclosed location (w/ Dick Cheney) and I was asleep on my chair next to Mommy's side of the bed.

Wed. Dec. 19 Smokie Crisis at Cottage Larsen!
Mommy changed the litterbox and instead of filling it with clay litter, she used (gasp!) crystals!
What, does she think we are delicate like our purebred cousin Bailey?
Stepping into the box is like stepping into a puddle. It moves like cold water under our paws.
This is completely unauthorized and unacceptable!

Wed. Dec. 19 Spot Litter!  Litter!  Litter! Litter....

Wed. Dec. 19 Miss Malt I am trying to keep the others calm.  No, I don't like the new litter either.  But what choice do we have?  One of us will have to use it tonight.  Having an "accident" might give Mommy a good hint.  But it also means we'll all be out in the cold the next few nights.

Fri. Dec. 21 Miss. Malt 5 years.  I realized tonight that we have 5 years.  I tried to warn Mommy and Daddoo.  I jumped up on their bed and meowed - which I never do.  I sat in Mommy's lap and softly bit her fingers.  I tried as hard as I could to communicate telepathically.  Mommy and Daddoo knew something was wrong and asked me "What's wrong, Malt Ball?" but they couldn't understand.  I told the other cats but they thought I'd been drinking the Indoor Tree water again - but Mommy and Daddoo didn't get an indoor tree this year.  I told the cats that this oversight and the change in litter is a sign - a warning.  But they don't believe me.  But I know it's true - I saw it on TV.  December 21, 2012.  We have 5 years. 12/21/12
Sat. Dec. 22 Smokette Miss Malt's gone crazy.  We were all so concerned that Smokie snuck into the garage and dug out an old magazine with an article about "conspiracy theories."  Smokie says this isn't quite that but close.
Miss Malt saw a television show about the end of the world and now she's convinced the world is going to end in 5 years.
Call me a dumb mottled - but I think it is lack of diversity in her food.  She refuses to hunt due to "ethical reasons."  So she only eats the crunchies that Mommy and Daddoo give us.  If she would eat a mouse or two or a bird every week her delusions would go away.

Sun. Dec. 23 Miss Malt Smokie said that I can't talk about the end of the world anymore.  He says I am scaring the other cats and giving Mommy nightmares.  So, I will remain silent - but my research and 2012 webpage will continue.
Mon. Dec. 23 Milkshake Mommy and Daddoo left today with their portable closets.  They filled our bowls with lots of food and water before they left.

Wed. Dec. 26 Smokie Daddoo finally came home but without Mommy.  He has been cleaning, writing, and reading a lot.  I hope he didn't lose Mommy.

Sat. Dec. 29 Spot Daddoo left early this morning and finally came home with Mommy a few hours later.  They were both very tired and took cat naps.

Mon. Dec. 31 Miss Malt I told them the world was going to end.  Explosions have been going on for hours - run, hide!
