Constitution

ARTICLE I NAME
The name of the organization shall be: The SYMPOSIUM
ARTICLE II
The purpose of the organization shall be to discuss varied topics related to Philosophy and the academic study of Religion.
ARTICLE III

  1. Membership in the organization shall be open to those regularly enrolled Winthrop University students who are majors or minors in the department of Philosophy & Religious Studies.
  2. This organization will have associated members who are non-students or who do not meet the above criteria. Associate Members will have all membership privileges except for the right to vote or hold office in the organization.
  3. Eligibility for membership or appointed or elected student officer positions in the campus-recognized chapter or group may not be limited on the basis of race, sex, color, age, religion, national origin, martial status, sexual orientation, physical or mental handicap, ancestry or medical condition, except as explicitly exempted in federal law.

ARTICLE IV OFFICERS  & DUTIES

  1. The officers of this organization shall consist of a President, a Vice-President, and a Treasurer. The Faculty Advisor will assume the treasurer duties.
  2. To be eligible for office candidates must be regularly enrolled Winthrop University students, either are majors or minors in Philosophy & Religious Studies, and be members of good standing in the SYMPOSIUM.
  3. Nominations for office shall occur annually, in the Spring Semester.
  4. Elections shall occur annually, in the Spring Semester.
  5. The term of office shall be for one academic year and shall begin in the Fall Semester and end in the Spring Semester.
  6. Vacancies shall be filled by appointment and serve until the end of the regular term.
  7. Officers may be removed from office by impeachment based on a majority vote of the membership attending the meeting in which the matter is decided.
  8. The duties of the officers shall be: assist in the promotion and regular operations of the club.

ARTICLE V FUNDING

  1. The organization shall need no specific funding.
  2. There will be no official money transactions.

ARTICLE VI MEETINGS

A general interest meeting will be arranged at the start of every Fall Semester. Regular meeting times will be determined each semester by those assembled. Special events will be scheduled at the convenience off the participants.
