WINR is
Winthrop University's student-run radio station that broadcasts from
the second-floor studios at Winthrop's Department of Mass
Communication in Johnson Hall. Student volunteers apply for air shifts
each fall semester and on an as-needed basis.
The station is managed by a
student General Manager, Music Director who receive
advice and guidance from a faculty station supervisor and a faculty program
supervisor.
Experience at a
station like WINR is especially important
for students who want to enter professional radio. Many of today’s
automated radio stations no longer have positions in which
entry-level employees can gain experience using and becoming
comfortable with an on air console.
