Q: I have a Windows
PC and don't have Windows Media Player.
A: Chances are, if you're using a computer made within the last ten
years, you do have Windows Media Player, and maybe you just
don't know it. Click
here to go to the Windows Media Player download page.
Q: I'm on a Mac!
A: Why in the world did you get a Mac???!!! Just kidding. But you're in luck.
The folks at Microsoft felt bad enough for you Mac users that they
wrote a version of Windows Media Player for you as well. They have
since discontinued support for it, so you're on your own. Download the Macintosh version of Windows Media
Player here.
Q: It's between the
hours of 4pm and 12midnight... Windows Media Player says that it is
playing the audio but I'm not hearing anything?
A: First, please check that your speakers connected to your computer
and turned on, as well as check the volume settings on your
computer. If all of this seems to be working, chances are that the
person you're trying to listen to didn't show up. Right now, we have
no way of filling this 'dead air.' That should change in the Fall of
2006 when we implement an automation system.
Q: What software
do you use to operate the station outside of normal hours?
A: WINR uses StationPlaylist Studio a designed for Low-cost
system music scheduling, live assist & automation software for radio
broadcasting. Visit their website at
www.stationplaylist.com
Q: Windows Media
Player displays the following error message:
C00D1198: Cannot connect to the server.
-or-
Windows Media Player cannot connect to the server. The server name might not be correct, the server might not be available, or your proxy settings might not be correct.
-or-
Ready.
A: For those who
have ever lived on campus, worked on campus, etc., you know that the
Winthrop internet can be very finicky sometimes. This usually means
that the stream is temporarily interrupted. If this error is being
displayed continuously (say, for more than 30 minutes), this most
likely means that the dedicated computer for streaming inside our
office is offline. It does this randomly,
and we have no idea why. We apologize for the
inconvenience.
Q: The DJ keeps
asking for callers to call in, but doesn't give out the number (or
only says 'call extension 2122') What do I do?
A: The studio line is (803) 323-2122.
Q: Who is currently
on air?
A: See the Program Schedule page.
Q: I don't have the
Windows Media Player, or don't want to install it.
A: Sorry. Winthrop's IT department is gracious enough to
provide us with the server, bandwidth, and WAN (Wide Area Network -
off campus) link - so you're going to have to either suck it up and
install Windows Media Player, or find another way to tune in.
However, we cannot support other software platforms.
WINR uses
Windows Media Encoder version 9 to encode our stream.
