"The Creation"

The Xi Beta Chapter at Winthrop University

On the 15th day of April in 1978, the directive was given by the National President, Thelma Daley, to  the South Atlantic Regional Director, Ruby T. Davis to proceed with the creation of a new chapter, Xi Beta. The Xi Beta Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is located at Winthrop University, Rock Hill, South Carolina.

The Chapter was composed of fifteen young women, concerned with serious endeavors and community service. These women are as follows:

 Janice Blake

Pamela Canty

Gina Cunnigham

Regina Floyd

Yvonne Freeman

Gloria Hoyles

Diane Jackson

Annette James

Lauretta Jones

Nancy Lindsay

Katherine Manigo

Denise McBryde

Barbara Perry

Rosa Rivers

Barbara Witherspoon

At its inception the standards of the Xi Beta chapter were and still area a vital concern for social welfare, academic excellence, cultural enrichment, and de-emphasizing the social side of sorority life.  Xi Beta has been involved in numerous service projects as well as several educational and community projects.  These include: Founders Week, Bone Marrow Drive, Cynthia P. Roddey Scholarship, Lupus Awareness Forum and Walk,  and International Day of Service (Aids Awareness).
